I have a 2006 Mac Pro 7300 gt, 3gb memory, 500 Gb HD dual core intel xeon, processor speed 2.66, and lion 10.7.5 installed currently im trying to install mountain lion. I used mac post factor to load the installer to a usb but when re booting it stuck on the apple startup screen please help. I have a macbook pro, and after installing mountain lion os, have no sound to speakers. If I put the headset everything works fine. Else, if I hold Option key and press the audio/speaker icon, it appears to output device - 'digital out'. I couldn't solve this issue. If I try to activate the sound from the keys, access is denied.

Coincidentally, the Mac OS X Mountain Lion download was the last paid upgrade to an OS X release. Future updates starting from the OS X Mavericks were all free. Apple also offered another marginal update on the Mac OS X Mountain Lion download called the Mountain Lion version 10.8.1. This update was released on August 23, 2012.
Jun 16, 2020. To upgrade from Lion or Mountain Lion, first upgrade to El Capitan, then upgrade to Catalina. To find your macOS version, Mac model, memory, and storage space, choose About This Mac from the Apple menu . If your Mac isn't compatible with macOS Catalina, the installer will let you know. Upgrading from Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion)
Macbook select all. Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) is no longer available for purchasefrom the Mac App Store. If you have Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion), and yourcomputer meets the systemrequirements for OS X 10.11 (El Capitan), you can upgrade directlyto that version instead; see ARCHIVED: Install or upgrade OS X 10.11 (El Capitan)
Reinstalling Mountain Lion
To reinstall or recover Mountain Lion, you must have an activeInternet connection. If you are on campus at Indiana University,UITS recommends the wired Ethernet network instead ofwireless. However, if IU Secure is your only option, seeConnect to an IU wireless network in macOS if booted from your Recovery HD
Reinstalling while keeping files, applications, and settings
Restart your computer, and immediately hold down command-r until the gray Apple logo appears.
If prompted, select your main language and then click the arrow.
Click Reinstall OS X, and then Continue. Follow the instructions on the screen, and then choose your hard disk. Click Install, and enter your Apple ID information if prompted.
When the installation is complete, select App Store.. from the Apple menu, and install any available updates.
Reinstalling while erasing everything on your computer
Restart your computer, and immediately hold down command-r until the gray Apple logo appears.
If prompted, select your main language and then click the arrow.
Click Disk Utility, and then Continue.
In Disk Utility, from the left column, click your harddisk. Select the Erase tab.
Next to 'Format:', make sure Mac OS Extended (Journaled)is selected. Next to 'Name:', give your disk a name.
If you would like to securely erase your data, click SecurityOptions.., adjust the slider accordingly, and clickOK. When you're ready, click Erase.., andthen Erase again to erase your disk. When the processcompletes, quit Disk Utility.
Click Reinstall OS X, and then Continue. Followthe instructions and then choose your hard disk. ClickInstall and enter your Apple ID information if prompted.Once the installation is complete, you'll be asked to enter basicinformation and have the option to transfer data from another computeror a backup.
Select Software Update.. from the Apple menu and installany available updates.
